A CLEAR, SIMPLE WORKFLOW

How to use PowerPoint to Markdown

Step 01

Select the presentation deck

Upload a PPTX presentation containing the slides you want to reuse. Keep a source copy available so you can compare visual diagrams with the extracted words; older PPT files need to be saved as PPTX before selecting them.

Step 02

Review the slide-by-slide text

Inspect slide headings, nested points and GFM tables in the live Markdown editor. Use the LLM token count to size a briefing or research prompt, and distinguish a speaker’s supporting notes from statements actually shown to the audience.

Step 03

Download your reusable outline

Copy the reviewed narrative or save the Markdown for documentation and meeting preparation. The temporary server handles the presentation and deletes its working files; you retain the downloaded text and can clear the tab’s recent-result history.

CONTENT WITH INTEGRITY

Formatting fidelity, explained

Slide numbers and titles create visible boundaries through the extracted document. A reader can connect a passage to its place in the deck without depending on the original theme, background color or a presentation application just to locate the relevant section.

Paragraph depth helps retain the relationship between a main bullet and its supporting examples. Very visual decks may use separate text boxes instead of a true list, so compare those blocks with the slide before relying on their order as an argument.

Native presentation tables become Markdown rows and columns where the source exposes cell data. A graph, a screenshot of a spreadsheet or an illustration remains a different kind of evidence; it should not be mistaken for an editable dataset simply because text sits nearby.

Speaker notes are identified separately from visible slide content. This lets you preserve an explanation or presenter reminder without presenting it as an audience-facing claim, which is particularly useful when adapting an internal pitch into a written summary for another team.

Presentation layouts communicate through position as much as through words. A large callout on the right may qualify a small chart on the left, and a connector can carry a relationship that no text box spells out. Markdown helps expose the wording for search and editing, but it cannot fully reproduce that visual logic. Annotate a diagram’s intended meaning yourself when it is necessary to understand the section, keeping your explanation distinguishable from extracted source material.

A slide transcript is a useful starting point for meeting notes, an accessible outline or a context pack for ChatGPT and Claude. Remove empty title-only slides only after confirming they are not meaningful section breaks. Expand unexplained acronyms and keep the deck’s version or date near the opening heading. The live token estimate can help fit a targeted prompt, while your source review protects against treating a presenter’s private reminder as approved evidence for external publication.

THE DETAILS THAT MATTER

Frequently asked questions

How are slides separated in the Markdown output?

The result labels slides in sequence and uses their titles to make each section identifiable. Content from the following slide starts beneath its own boundary, allowing you to locate a quote or table in the original deck. Slides with no usable title receive a neutral label rather than an invented topic, and you may replace that label with a suitable heading during review.

Are speaker notes different from visible bullet points?

Yes, visible bullets describe what appears on a slide, while speaker notes contain supporting text saved for the presenter. Extracted notes are marked as Speaker Notes so they can be reviewed or removed as a separate contribution. Check them before sharing an internal presentation transcript, because notes can include unfinished wording, confidential context or reminders that were never intended for the audience.

Can charts become editable Markdown tables?

An ordinary PowerPoint table can be represented as a Markdown table because its individual cells are available. A chart is not automatically reverse-engineered into a reliable dataset, and a chart pasted as a picture supplies even less structured information. To analyze exact figures, convert the original Excel workbook or provide an approved data table alongside the slide transcript instead of inferring values from the drawing.

Why does slide reading order need manual review?

A slide may contain overlapping boxes, grouped shapes, arrows or a multi-column comparison, none of which guarantees a single reading order. The extracted sequence is a helpful draft, not an interpretation of every visual relationship. Read the Markdown alongside the deck, move blocks that belong together and label missing diagram context explicitly so a later reader does not confuse spatial proximity with a documented conclusion.
